Since 2003 honorary professor at the University of Tübingen for international business law, including arbitration. Regional chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Germany e.V. for the State of Baden-Württemberg. Board member in various companies. Member of the International Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the German-American Jurist Association and the German Institution for Arbitration (DIS). Numerous publications on stock corporation law, Corporate Governance, directors & officers liability, international contract law, international litigation and arbitration. Regular talks, lectures and seminars on the aforementioned topics especially on the duties and powers of supervisory boards.

Areas of practice: corporate law especially encompassing the law of stock corporations, international contract law, transactions, corporate governance, D&O liability, D&O insurance law and arbitration. Professor Dr. Thümmel advises companies on corporate law issues, with regard to the structuring and negotiation of large contracts and with regard to transactions. Further, Professor Dr. Thümmel represents companies in complex litigation and arbitration procedures. An additional important area of his practice is the advice to and legal representation of directors and officers in D&O liability cases as well as the representation of D&O insurers as monitoring or coverage counsel.
