Eberhard Diepgen

Rechtsanwalt

born in 1941; legal studies at the Free University Berlin; admitted to the German Bar in 1972; Governing Mayor of Berlin during the years 1984 to 1989 and after the first elections for the whole of Berlin, from December 1990 until June 2001; from 1999 until 2001 directly responsible for the Department of Justice (Senatsverwaltung für Justiz); co-founder of the Working Group of Christian Democratic Jurists.

Dr. Diepgen was a member of the Berlin State Parliament from 1971 until 2001 and temporarily a member of the German Federal Parliament. As Governing Mayor he was a member of the Federal Council of Germany (Bundesrat) and of several European institutions. During his mandate, Dr. Diepgen was engaged in the building up of partnerships between Berlin and a network of European metropolises.

Dr. Diepgen is the editor and author of various books on German and Berlin-related politics and on the situation of Berlin under international law before 1989. With his experience in administration and as legislator, Dr. Diepgen is nowadays accompanying investment projects and advising investors on economic and legal issues.
